Banned Book Project
In this project we independently read books that have been challenged or banned and we researched the reasoning behind it and we chose the book that interested us the most and I chose a book called Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. In this project we also made bookmarks relating to our books and we also bought or made food that had to go along with our books which was very fun. This project wasn't necessarily difficult but it was just different than what I have done in the past but If I was going to say something that was hard or that I struggled with is probably the process of reading my 323 page book because after the beginning of my book I lost a lot of interest because I expected a lot of action since it is about a book where the main character was in the Vietnam War. One thing that was not necessarily easy but something I enjoyed to do and something that wasn't at all harder Than a lot of the other things would probably be the exhibition even though I didn't talk to a lot of people the few people I talked to I was 100% prepared and I believed that I did good and the parents I talked to where intrigued about the book. For my bookmark I didn't get much critique about it other than some people liked a quote that I said "Don't be scared of the past embrace it and make a better future" Which that quote from myself showed my point of view on it getting banned. But one day in class we where able to get critiqued and some of my table mates gave good critique because my rough draft wasn't that good but my helpful class mates told me to color in all of my drawings and cover the lines in sharpie and to draw a few things better and for it to be a lot cleaner. My book wasn't that interesting and I wouldn't recommend to a friend because there where small amounts of fighting and war (mainly the end) it didn't give more of a compelling story to me. Even though the book I read wasn't the best in my point of view I enjoyed the bookmark creation and even though I wouldn't say my bookmark doesn't contain the best drawings or the best quality for that matter I liked what I did. I am not a good artist by any means and I feel like you can tell that in my bookmark and I feel like if I spent a lot more time on the post card in a certain part in it and start tracing it and practicing it more and more I feel like it would have been better but all those negatives aside I feel as if I did good on my bookmark and the idea of actually using my own quote to tell the audience my point of view in the bookmark. In exhibition I was able to have a few conversations with different parents and brothers and sisters of other students and one conversation was with one of my friends mom and I told her the backstory and the timeline and why it was banned and we had a very nice and fluent conversation on why I chose it and many facts about it and about my point of view on it and her point of view as well. If I was to give myself a grade throughout this project I would probably give myself a A- Because I feel like I did good on almost everything from the researching to the exhibition but I feel like i could have made things like my bookmark not okay but make it great and especially from exhibition even though the few people I talked to I feel like I had to search for people and I didn't know who else to talk to as well because most of the parents where there for there kids project and didn't necessarily want more conversations and I was sort of socially awkward when no one would go up to me but I feel like at some points the conversations went a little dry but I still feel like I did good at it and overall good in everything we did. If I was to redo or change something in this project I would change my book and work and spend a lot more time on my bookmark. Thank you for reading about my Project there are images right below of my bookmark, Book, and potluck label hope you enjoy.
