Career Day 2018
Career Day, Career Day is a day dedicated to shadowing people who're the career you might be interested in doing in the future. In career day you learn things about the requirements of the job, an average day at that job, the average hours, the work environment, and the upsides and downsides. Towards the end of the day, you have the basic idea of the job and you can decide if you want to do that one day for a career. For career day I went and shadowed a Worship Pastor named Travis Taylor and he works at the church I attend called the Movement in San Marcos. For my career day it was not a normal day for the church because the work days are Sunday through Thursday and career day was on a Friday, and because of that we where the only ones in the office but on a usual day he would talk to his designer of the church because she is his employee. But throughout the day he would also him and the other pastors would have meetings about the future and the present of the church. He also throughout the day makes sure all AV systems are working, he consults about worship for every ministry, he practices for the worship for Sunday morning, and so much more. For all of the work policies there is not much at all because the office dress code is non-existent and for tardiness and for not being there, there is no punishment because for his line of work he builds his own schedule and as long as the work is done there are no negative outcomes. Some tasks for his work is to have a life group that is assigned to everyone who works there. A life group is a group of people who are hosted at a home or place discussing a certain topic and how to get through it. For example marriage life, new believers, and prayer groups. With all the people in the office, they also have to discuss their finances and what they are putting their money into and how much other people need for their ministries. For Travis's position it needs a lot of tech experience which High Tech High has been very good with because we practically live on computers in our school so I'm very familiar with a lot of different software and things and High Tech has shown me so much I could pick up on other software a lot easier. His job also consists of a lot of writing and typing which is where Humanities would come in. Some things that where needed to get this job that Travis met where a strong grasp of musical composition and performance technique, advanced in technology usage familiar with website development and architecture, experience in management, needs good communication skill, coachable, to be able to teach others, strong analytical skill and strategic problem solving skills, good multitasker, integral and committed to living public life that is founded in Christ-likeness and above reproach, understands the alignment and core values of the church, and understand the mission and vision of the church. Some new incite I learned is that if you have to be advanced in technology, in general, to succeed in this job and also for this job it takes a lot of work devotion. Throughout this day I really loved it and I believe that I would be interested in and I know it would take a lot of work to do but this experience was great and I feel as if I am so involved in my church that being apart of the staff would just be an extent of what I already love to do. The reason I chose this job is because I don't want to just go through life not doing anything that mattered but I would see Travis or any of the other pastors and I see they change people's lives and hearts in a day and that's what I always wanted to do because the feeling of being a difference and changing someone's life in a good way would surpass any feeling. Some things that I would keep in mind is my goals in life and how I want to make a difference and I would like to look into shadowing Travis or looking into shadowing someone who's career goes along the guideline of my dreams and passions. Even though I would never change my career day in anyway I want to just keep in my dreams and passions for next year.
